Caroline Lonsdale

100 Years Young

Great Lakes Mayor, Jan McWilliams and GM Peter Clarke helped member Caroline Lonsdale celebrate her 100th birthday at Club Forster recently.
Caroline celebrated this milestone with 60 members of the Club Forster Euchre Club along with her son and daughter.

Murray Verran in the Port Macquarie Ironman

Club Forster's own Ironman!

Many members will know of Murray Verran as our Gaming & IT Manager - but not many would know of his very healthy active life outside of Club Forster. Such a high pressure job needs a healthy and active mind and body - and that's what Murray is all about! His interest in training for triathlons began 6 years ago, and since then Murray grabs every opportunity to compete.

28th March this year saw Murray compete in his 4th Ironman - the 25th Anniversary Ironman Australia Triathlon held in Port Macquarie. Murray explained that it was a very tough and hilly race with temperatures of 29°C and strong winds during the bike leg.

There were 1533 Australian and International competitors and the race was won for the 4th time by Patrick Vernay from New Caledonia.(a 3.8km swim, 180.2km ride & 42.2km run!)

Murray's aim is to continue competing into his 70's and the ultimate would be the Hawaiian Ironman. We all wish him continued success.

Col Bakes congratulates Bill Lambert on retirement

Bill retires after 37 years

The longest serving staff member of Forster Tuncurry Memorial Services Club, Bill Lambert, hangs up his gloves today after 37 years with the club. Bill began work in 1973 as a Bar Steward, and progressed through the ranks of Supervisor and Manager before settling into the role that most members and visitors know - as the club's Gardener/Landscaper and Green Keeper. Bill was a keen cricketer in his day, and continues his strong passion for golf, the horses, and the odd flutter. Pictured here with President Col Bakes, Bill will certainly be missed by his friends at Club Forster.
